12v Lighting ideas

1 October 2012: I'm looking into 12 volt lighting in the extension, as a demonstration of the Off-Grid nature of the solar panels above. Matt-F left a comment on an earlier posting asking me if I was considering a DC microgrid.
I've been looking at websites of motorhome suppliers. There seems to be a choice of Halogen, Fluorescent and LED lighting, with a variety of ways of supplying it, e.g. strips, recessed, mini-spotlights etc. I would certainly want to include an indicator light, to show if the panels are generating, or the battery working.
There are some aspects I dont know about, such as circuit breakers or switching but I will do some reading up. Thanks in advance to anyone who can give me pointers on circuit design for 12v.
He gave me a link to a US website, promoting 12 volt micro grids:

In the UK, we seem to have a few suppliers:

Matt-F has sent another two links to UK companies who can help in this:

  1. Hi David,

This website seems to be run by committed folk:

Or, you might contact our PV wholesaler:

    http://www.windandsun.co.uk/

They are helpful and really know their off-grid stuff.

We are going to be doing some marine PV work soon so I'll let you know what we come up with with regards to lighting
